The Legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar Passed away at age 92

The legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar died in Mumbai on Sunday morning. Mangeshkar, popularly known as ‘Queen of Melody’ and ‘Nightingale of India,’ was diagnosed with COVID-19 with mild symptoms on January 8 and was treated at a city hospital. she was 92 years old.

Mangeshkar was admitted to the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital, where she was treated by Dr. Pratit Samdani and his medical team. The famed singer has been showing improvement until last week but her health deteriorated and she was restored to respiratory support on Saturday morning. The artist was also treated for pneumonia. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia on January 30.

Lata Mangeshkar was born in Indore on 28 September 1929. She was an Indian playback singer and an occasional music composer. She was widely regarded as one of the greatest and most respected musicians in India. Her role in the Indian music industry in her 70-year career has been honored with titles such as India’s Nightingale and Queen of Melody.

Lata has recorded songs in more than 36 Indian languages and a few foreign languages, though mainly Hindi and Marathi. She has received numerous accolades and honors throughout her career.

In 1987, The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was awarded by the Government of India. In 2001, in recognition of her contributions to the nation, She was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest award of Indian citizenship and second only, after M. S. Subbulakshmi to get this fame. France presented her with his highest award, Officer of the Legion of Honour in 2007.

She is the recipient of 3 National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists Association Awards, 4 Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, 2 Filmfare Special Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Awards, and much more. In 1974, she became the first Indian to sing at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

She has four siblings: Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath Mangeshkar. She was the eldest of them.

The singer lost her fight in Covid-19 after receiving several days’ treatment at Bridge Candy Hospital, Mumbai.
